Need to extract the packeddecimal data in a readable format.

Hi.

I have a file that comes to my system from an interface.

The file is having 5 byte date values : S9(9) comp3 starting at position 10 in the file.

The date value in the file is in hexadecimal format which shows junk characters.

Let me know how to extract the records having date in readable format.

Mukesh,

That's only one of many ways to do what you want depending on what you want the output field to look like.

If you're not familiar with DFSORT and DFSORT's ICETOOL, I'd suggest reading through "z/OS DFSORT: Getting Started". It's an excellent tutorial, with lots of examples, that will show you how to use DFSORT, DFSORT's ICETOOL and DFSORT Symbols. You can access it online, along with all of the other DFSORT books, from:
