Hi,
This is my first post here.
I'm having a problem with DFSMS and VTS (Virtual Tape System) that I can' figure out.
I'm running DFHSM with 3490 and 3590 tapes fine.
Now I'm trying to replace the 3490 with VTS.
I could run HSM with VTS in an LPAR with z/OS 1.11: the migrate, backup and dump worked fine there.
Now I'm trying to implement in a z/OS 1.9 with the same parameters than in z/OS 1.11 that works fine but the following messages appear when I use the DUMP and MIGRATE commands, the BACKUP works fine:

ARC0622I FULL VOLUME DUMP STARTING ON VOLUME 851
ARC0622I (CONT.) TESCT1(NONSMS) AT 10:06:34 ON 2010/06/24, SYSTEM TEST,
ARC0622I (CONT.) TASK ID=ARCDVOL1 , TO DUMP CLASS(ES)= DOMINGO
IGD306I UNEXPECTED ERROR DURING CBRXLCS PROCESSING 852
RETURN CODE 12 REASON CODE 49
THE MODULE THAT DETECTED THE ERROR IS IGDIDMUS
SMS MODULE TRACE BACK - IDMUS IDMSU IDM00 SSIRT
SYMPTOM RECORD CREATED, PROBLEM ID IS IGD00064
IKJ56893I DATA SET HSM210.DMP.DOMINGO.VTESCT1.D10175.T340610 NOT
ALLOCATED+
IGD330I ERROR OCCURRED DURING CBRXLCS PROCESSING- 854
NO DEVICE POOLS EXIST TO FULFILL REQUEST FOR TDSI SPECIFICATION
IGD306I UNEXPECTED ERROR DURING CBRXLCS PROCESSING 855
RETURN CODE 12 REASON CODE 49
THE MODULE THAT DETECTED THE ERROR IS IGDIDMUS
SMS MODULE TRACE BACK - IDMUS IDMSU IDM00 SSIRT
SYMPTOM RECORD CREATED, PROBLEM ID IS IGD00064
ARC0623I FULL VOLUME DUMP OF VOLUME TESCT1 ENDING AT 856
ARC0623I (CONT.) 10:06:34, PROCESSING FAILED

I don't believe that the problem is related to the z/OS operating system version, but I'm not completely sure.

The SMS ACS is apparently fine, but I can't figure out what may be the problem.
What should I check in order to know what is happening ?

Best regards

Daniel Gallardo

My advice would be to first investigate the IGD330I message.

Sounds like a case of new ESOTERIC or generic device groups to be added/altered in the EDT, or maybe new ESOTERIC name to be added to the DFHSM parmlib for the new device types? Or possibly that to use VTS you need to update your DFSMS Storgrp?

Hi,

The VTS works fine in this environment. Also the VTS works fine with HSM for the Backup function.
The Dump and Migrate Hsm commands doesn't work with VTS.
I'll continue investigating if I can see anything wrong with the settings.
Also the Storage Group is correctly selected with the backup function:

IGD100I C33D ALLOCATED TO DDNAME SYS00032 210
STORCLAS (SCVTOLL0) MGMTCLAS (MCVTOLDC) DATACLAS (DCVTOL1G)
ARC0421I BACKUP VOLUME X02765 IS NOW MARKED FULL
IEC501A M C33D,PRIVAT,SL,COMP,DFHSM,DFHSM
IEC705I TAPE ON C33D,X01419,SL,COMP,DFHSM,DFHSM,MEDIA2
ARC0353I TAPE VOLUME X01419 SUCCESSFULLY ADDED TO 216
ARC0353I (CONT.) DFSMSHSM'S RACF TAPE VOLUME SET
ARC0120I BACKUP VOLUME X01419 ADDED, RC=0000, REAS=0000
IEC205I SYS00032,DFHSM,DFHSM,FILESEQ=1, COMPLETE VOLUME LIST, 218
VOLS=X01419,TOTALBLOCKS=4

Best regards

Might pay to follow expat's advice. Doing a Quickref on IGD330I reveals it is to do with the LCS

IGD330I ERROR OCCURRED DURING CBRXLCS PROCESSING- reason-text

Explanation: Self-explanatory message text extracted from the LCS return
and reason codes.

...the LCS being...

Library Control System

The Object Access Method component that controls optical
and tape library operations and maintains configuration
information.

and IGD306I also indicates LCS issue, referring you to z/OS DFSMSdfp Diagnosis for the RC and RSN code meanings.

Maybe you have different ACS routines on your ZoS1.11 LPAR, and the 1.9 is not assigning Storclas etc that will direct the files to the VTS Storgrp?
