Can we delete a root segment without deleting the child segments in an IMS DB. |

If you delete the route segment occurance, all the subordinates will get deleted.

Maybe, just maybe banu tried to say that you don't need to delete the dependent segments before deleting the parent/root. At least, I hope he did |

i think if we delete a segment at any level all the dependent segments also get deleted. in our case, if we delete the root all the dependents get deleted. this is equivalent to deleting the entire database record altogether.

Hi all,
If we delete any segment at any leve ( including root), all the dependent segments will get deleted, you dont have to delete the childs before deleting the parent segment. IMS take cares of that thing.
In case you want to change the root, you have to actually copy all the child segment by reading them one by one, insert them to the segment with new key and delete the old segment with old key.
