A few years ago I had a phone interview for a mainframe position for a major financial company.
The manager also had a technical person with her, who asked me just one question.
If I were asking just one question, it might be about COND, or perhaps a juicy GDG question.
Instead, the one question was: "Explain DISP=OLD"
I know this cold, and for all I know I told the questioner more than he knew (exclusive use), especially since afer I started there I had to debug a very simple COBOL program by this person. He had neglected to allow a sign for credit card balances, so negatives were taken as positive, resulting in a report total off by tens of millions of dollars.
Just thought this was interesting. |

So, you got a call back from them, were you selected? |

Yes - that's how I was in position to debug my tech interviewer's program.
Turned out to be a very good assignment. |
