The big project around here these days in to install and implement the Tivoli Asset Discovery for z/OS (TAD4Z) tool. We don't own all of the prerequisite software components (such as DB2), so it's not known yet if we'll be able to use it. I've read through their documentation regarding how it works and what sort of information it collects. I'm a little dubious if it can provide any more details about our systems than the Sysadmin team would probably already know.
I guess I'm curious if anyone else has this product, if you've seen what sort of details it provides, and what, if any, of that information you've seen to be critical to your shop's operations?
We implemented this about 6-7 years ago when it was called Dorana and was a non-IBM product. It allowed us to identify products that we had installed that we did not know we had, and to identify products that we were paying for and not using. It also allowed us identify software that we were unknowingly running mixed versions of . I have no idea what this product costs now but then it more than paid for itself.
