CPU time is usually the amount of time the processor spent doing something with the program. Execution time is the elapsed time the job required. Due to multiprocessing, the ratio generally runs between 1:50 and 1:100 (one minute of CPU time requires 50 to 100 minutes of elapsed time), although the exact ratio varies by system workload.
