I have a BMP IMS DB module which reads all the segments in a particular database and processes them. Such situations can be rewritten in case of DB2 programs to Unload the table using any unload utility and then read the file and process the same. I was trying to replicate the same in case of IMS module as well. But the IMS DBA in my shop notified me that unload would require the database to be OFFLINE. And hence API batch and sequential processing are the alternate options for the same.
I am pretty much new to IMS and any guidance to help me understand IMS Unload, API batch and sequential processing would be appreciated. Should the database be stopped for unload to be performed ?? |

Well, before I attempt to asnwer this - please let me know, if you understand what "IMS is not offline" would mean, in this context? |

Yesterday, when I posted this question, I was under the assumption that it means shutting down the database. But was doing some level of googling and am now under the impression that it means the data in the database are locked for unloading and unavailalable for other processes making it virtually offline. Again, this is still my understanding only. |
