Hi,
am using Windows 7 and looking for the tool which would be working as a standalone tool for the programming in COBOL without the necessity of joining the network. Need a standalone tool running on PC. Andy idea of the free or trial download please?

Thank you for any recommendation.

Hello,

Are you looking for some "mainframe cobol" to run on your windows pc?

Or would any cobol be sufficient?

Depending on just what you want, suggest you use "free cobol compiler" (without the quotes) in any web search.

Hi,
thank you for the recommendation this is what I have done already and downloaded a lot of compilers working with the old version of windows running on 32. I will use cobol for mainframe development, but now, searching for whatever compliler, editor and runtime environment to use on personal PC. I am struggling to get to the point to run the code on personal PC without the necessity of connecting AS400 environments. Please advise.

Thank you

The compilers i've seen for the pc come with instructions on how to compile and execute on the pc. There should be no need to connect to the as/400 unless some of the code is as/400 specific.

There is also a free product called Hercules which will set up a "mainframe on a pc". This is not as/400 - it is "mvs". Look here: www.hercules-390.org/
