Can we DELETE all the Generations of a GDG at once, WITHOUT deleting the GDG itself ?

Statement1 "We can not use UNCATLG in SMS managed VSAM datasets" Statement2 "We can not delete a SMS managed data set without UNCATLG it" (P-353, Saba Zameer book) Then how do we delete SMS managed VSAM datasets ?

What is the difference between a PDS member and a GDG Generation ? Is it only this, that with a generation we can use +1, 0, -1 etc while with PDS member we can not ?

A statement about PROCs is " In PROCs, Symbolic Parameters can be assigned on PROC and EXEC", BUT On which EXEC, (i) On the JCL's EXEC which is calling to PROC1. (Inside JCL, EXEC PROC1) (ii) or On the PROC's EXEC where it calls the PGM1. (Inside PROC, EXEC PGM=PGM1)

Is CPU time (TIME parameter) assigned to a JOB and JOBSTEP BOTH, by default ?

These questions are all basic.
Have you read any of the manuals, and if you have not, please read them before posting.

Hello,

We will try to help people with questions/problems that they have worked on.

We will not read the manuals for you.

When you have any more questions, post the material from the documentation and your doubt about it. Someone will be able to clarify.

I'm not able to find a justification to me as to why this was asked? It's a strange question for me! icon_neutral.gif

Yup, for all of us. . . icon_wink.gif

It simply means that TS did not invest even a little bit of effort reading the documentation. . . icon_sad.gif

Hi Dick,

I even tried to do that - using IDCAMS defined a base and then with the same DSN created a generation using IEFBR14 with DSORG=PO in DCB - and then what? I was not allowed to create any member in the newly created generation though DSORG was "PO"...You know curiosity kills you, at times, better than your GF. icon_eek.gif
