Hi,
Am trying to create a VSAM file and an Alternate index. Since my alternate key contains many (more than 40000) spaces, I want to exclude them while building index.
Will the option KEYRANGES work for this? If so, could you give me the syntax for this.
Thanks,
Jagan S. |

Hello and welcome to the forum,
At the top of the page is a link to "IBM Manuals". Suggest you become familiar/comfortable with these. . .

If the manual can be believed, no. . .

KEYRANGES((lowkey highkey)[(lowkey highkey)...])
KEYRANGE is no longer supported; If you specify this parameter, VSAM ignores it, and no message is issued. |

Huh? An alternate includes all of the records -- excluding some of the records makes absolutely no sense when you think of the purpose of an alternate index. Either you need to explain more what you think your problem is, or explain why you think you need to exclude some of your records from the alternate index (which cannot be done, anyway, so your thinking is WAY off base already). |
