why comp3 can store only maximum of 18byte?

i guess it can store only a max of 10 bytes...............

Yes.. Its S9(18).. so 10 bytes only.

its cobol compiler specific. it varies depends.. for example compaq cobol has 31 max

ya u r right it can store only 18character and takes 10bytes.
