Is anybody aware of an available tool/utility from IBM or similar that will reformat dasd volumes with zeros? We haved moved off of old dasd and want to wipe the disk before giving it up to the recyclers. I would prefer to take a hammer to them all, but the boss won't let me. Thanks, |

Thanks Enrico, I am having trouble getting the XMI file transferred into my dataset. I have used FTP binary transfer and ISPF Transfer Services from ISPF Command Shell, both put the CBTTAPE file directly into my PDS member (yes its FB 80), but all the data is garbled, I have also tried sequential file. Instructions say I will have to receive the file, but there is never anything to receive. Perhaps i'm missing something, any ideas?
To expat, this is classic (real) dasd RAID 1, not virtual.
To nevilh, can ickdsf do a whole range of addresses? Were talking about thousands of volumes. |

Once you have the CBT file, you must issue a TSO command (ISPF option 6 or from a READY prompt): receive datasetname. You will be prompted for a data set name to store the received PDS in. |

To the best of my knowledge when using ICKDSF you will need one control card per volume . How old are these disks ?.... is it not possible to do this over a hardware function? |

Yes these are older, EMC symmetrix 8530's. We were just trying to find a solution that costs the least amount of money, otherwise we would just buy temp license for FDRERASE.
Thanks for all the assistance folks (:^{() |

How are the 8530's configured ? If they are configured as 3390-3 disks you could try re-configuring them as 3390-27 this will make the data unavailable. I am not sure if it will physically overwrite the data. _ |
