While using syncsort if i specify more cyclinders for the sort workspaces.. will they be released if its more than what is needed?
Does it harm to specify more cyclinder space for sortwork spaces when using SYNCSORT.
Does any one have a detailed manual to understand the process involved when i use SYNCSORT.

Rahman. |

Hello,
All sortwork is released when the step ends. . .
The documentation is available for free from Syncsort Support if your organization is licensed to use the product. |

You can always try to run your sort without any SORTWK DD and check the results. |

I always do what Marso has suggested unless there is more files needed which were defined in DYNALLOC default.
Just to get away from fear you may use RLSE parameter on sortwork files, as an alternate... |

Another alternative would be to raise the number of SORTWKs that can be dynamically allocated at runtime. For example, if your DYNALOC default is MAXNUM=32, you can add the following to your sort step:
Code: |
//S1 EXEC PGM=SORT,PARM='DYNALLOC=(SYSDA,100)'
or
//$ORTPARM DD *
DYNALLOC=(SYSDA,100) |
