Hello,

Cancel abends the job.

Purge removes it from the system.

I've got one question here:

What is the difference between Purging a running JOB and Cancelling a running JOB.

for e.g -

for purging, we type P against the running JOB name in SDSF

for cancelling, we type C against the running JOB name in SDSF

Please explain in detail..I wud appreciate it. Thanks.

Hi Dick,

Sir, I wanted to know whther purging a running JOB (by typing P against the JOB name in SDSF) would cancel it first and then removes it from the system OR it would not cancel the running JOB at all ???

A purge cancels the job and deletes the job's output from JES.

After output processing is complete, the purge releases all spool space associated with the completed job. CANCEL command is used to end an active job and that's all.
