Hi,

I wanted to send an CSV file into windows server but the destination file needs to be password encrypted.

I have checked in Connect direct but could not find how to send the file using encryption.

I have come across the .PGP file format. This relates to some encryption method. But I am not sure how we can use this in mainframe. Can some one help me to understand this?.

Regards,
Chandra

how to do it is not a decision You should take Yourself,
the proper place to start with is the security group and maybe higher management
usually when dealing with encryption thing have to be decided quite high in the management chain
and let' s not forget about the legalese involved

PGP has to be installed on the mainframe. I haven't checked to see if there are any free products (the PGP software we use cost $10,000 several years ago when we bought it). As such, you would have to get your site support group involved to install the software.

Hello,

And you would need to ensure that using pgp will be acceptable for the destination. If all they want is a password-protected local file, they might not agree to pgp. . .

And i'm not aware of how to send a password-protected file from the mainframe to a remote.

So, a re-visit to the requirement definition may be necessary.

I'm more curious as to why the remote destination wants the file to be encrypted and password protected. Is it some sort of public site that's open to the entire world and has no provisions for securing the data or providing some sort of access restrictions to it?

Thanks for the replies.

The data which we are sending is very confidential and it needs a security when we sending it over network.

I heard about PGP software but I am not sure how to use PGP in mainframe.

Does anyone has this details please?.

Regards,
Chandra

if Your organization decided to use PGP and is licensed for it
then all the docs should be available to You

please reread my previous post on how to manage such requirements

1. Buy the software.
2. Install the software.
3. Read the manual for the software.
4. Follow the directions in the manual for the software.

The specific way to use it depends upon which product is purchased -- and that is distinctly site specific. So contact your site support group and get their help.

And wouldn't the receiving site need the same software to decode the data ?

expat, as long as the software is PGP the files will be compatible. Of course, getting the password to the other site in a secure method is another potential liability.

Hello,

Suggest that if pgp is not already in use you might consider using Secure FTP instead. . .

If the "other end" is driving the requirement, they may already have a secure ftp server established.
