Hi,

Every now and then there is a thread of this kind - icon_neutral.gif which gives similar emot-expression on my face to which I linked the thread...

How these dates help? What business-requirement do they serve? For what purpose people are so concerned about the last referenced date? What if I "ISPF browse" the file? What if ...

I can think about a "scratch/delete etc." policy based on last referenced date. But then thats something for the storage people.

Methinks that the OP is a "storage guy" and I use the term quite loosely icon_cry.gif

As a storage guy I don't usually tend to worry about dates. That is what SMS and HSM is all about. So unless the OP would like to tell us why the dates are important there isn't too much we can do to satisy the intrigue.

I do think the last reference date is updated. It is a field in the VTOC. There is no 'last reference date' for PDS members.

Yes it does and probably one of the reasons why I wonder about the question popping up so many times.

It is not always updated if the last reference date is set to zero it will no longer be maintained.

There is always SMF to find out who at what moment accessed a dataset.
