Hi,
I have a program which was using GSAM files as input and output but now since the program no more access the IMS database, I want to process this input file as a sequential file. Agreed that I will be required to make program and jcl changes to remove all the IMS related stuff. But is this possible? |

Can you please give some background - why no more IMS? GSAM is a single level database - what was it's purpose? |

The program used to access the IMS database but now the IMS database is no more accessed. The check point restart logic will be removed. Hence now we want to process this file as a sequential file. My doubt was whether we can still process this file as a sequential file with changes to the proc and program with respect to IMS. |

The z/OS access methods that GSAM can use are BSAM and VSAM. A GSAM database is a z/OS data set record that is defined as a database record. The record is handled as one unit; it contains no segments or fields and the structure is not hierarchic.
Beforementioned any helpfull? |

As per my knowledge, a GSAM file is actually a sequential file. But the way it is accessed is like a IMS database with no segments. But now if I do not want to access it like a IMS database(like GSAM) but like a sequential file...is this possible? |

Like I said before, VSAM, BSAM and QSAM kan be used to process
GSAM datasets. For the "record lay-out" you have to find that information
in DBD's, PSB's etc.
For physical things like DCB's you can use zillions of utilities. |

Your GSAM "file" - it appears - was used for checkpoint restart. If you no longer have IMS updates, you no longer need ANY file for that purpose. |
