I need to count the combinations of fields in a file. this is the file:

0000000103..00000000907167961000060c001c
0000000103..00000000907167961000060c001c

the last 4 bytes that are packed are what I need to count
this is what I'm running but get a rc20:

Code:

//JS020   EXEC PGM=ICETOOL
//IN        DD DSN=in.TSOUR.Pdata.Q,
//             DISP=(SHR,KEEP,KEEP)
//OUT       DD DSN=out.TSOUR.datta0.Q.SRT,
//             DISP=(,CATLG,DELETE),
//             UNIT=PERMDA,
//             VOL=(,,,5),
//             SPACE=(CYL,(500,250),RLSE)
//DFSMSG   DD   SYSOUT=*
//TOOLMSG  DD   SYSOUT=*
//TOOLIN    DD *
OCCUR FROM(IN) LIST(OUT) NOHEADER BLANK NOCC -
  ON(33,4,CH) ON(VALCNT)
/*

RC=20 would indicate that you are missing a needed DD statement, but that doesn't appear to be the case. When I run your job, I get RC=0. However, if you have two PD fields, you should use those as the ON fields instead of one CH field.

Code:

OCCUR FROM(IN) LIST(OUT) NOHEADER BLANK NOCC -
  ON(35,2,PD) ON(37,2,PD) ON(VALCNT)

When I used this with the equivalent of your JCL, OUT had:

Code:

  60      1                 2

If that's not what you want, then you need to explain more clearly what you do want.

If you do get a RC=20, please show your complete JES log.

I'm a DFSORT developer. DFSORT and Syncsort are competitive products. I'm happy to answer questions on DFSORT and DFSORT's ICETOOL, but I don't answer questions on Syncsort.

Hello,

There is something called ICETOOL on your system or you would not get the rc=20 - there would be an abend. . . On many Syncsort systems, ICETOOL is an alias for SYNCTOOL.

If you want someone to help, you need to post the diagnostic informaton you were shown when the job was run.
