how to improve DB2 performance

when using DB2 in application development. which are the points to be considered so that i get better performance
for eg: avoid using select *

further points will be appreciated

for the reply.. i wanted concepyual knowdledge.. which are quries to avoided while coding DB2 apllication
for instance i know one is that .. try to avoid select *
sugesst me more of this

i wanted only concepetual knowledge
do's and dont's while using db2 in application coding
which are the quries which are to be avoided

did You try to search the web with (for example)
db2 application design guidelines for performance
look like not, if You had You would have found this
