Difference between VARY and CF command??

If assume CHPID (channel path identifier) =02

V PATH(xxxx-yyyy,02), OFFLINE

CF CHP(02), OFFLINE

What is the difference between these commands???
As per my understanding V PATH command varies path 02 offline and makes it Logically offline. While CF CHP command makes 02 channel path Physically offline....Please help.

Also let me know whther 1 CHPID can be conected to many device or not?? If yes then if we perform CF CHP(02), OFFLINE it will affect many devices (in case CHPID is connected to many devices)???

Explain if you could in detail.....I wud appreciate it....

CF is the CONFIG command. CHPID is the physical device. The VARY PATH command works on the logical interface between the device and the CPU whereas the CF command works on the actual physical device connection. One CHIPID can be connected to up to 256 devices (x'00' to x'FF').

The physical path must be configured and available, or the VARY PATH will fail with a message stating the device isn't available. If you use the CF command on the CHPID, JES might attempt to use the path to access a device it cannot get to -- NOT a good state of affairs.
