All,
is there any option or command in mainframe to move back XDC member or PS file again back into SPOOL.
(Example - say i am XDC the today job log into one of PDS member today.After 10 days job will be moved out (purged fromm spool).Now is there any option to move the PDS member back to SPOOL.
ie) Reverse form of XDC joblog into member....
Please correct me if i am wrong on above or not clear on this requirement.
Thanks

Hello,
If you have "something" in a file (it doesn't matter that it was put there by XDC) you can copy it to SYSOUT=whatever and it will be "back in the spool". If you use the same job name and ddname, it will look very much like it did originally.
Not sure why you want to do this as if the data is in a file, it can be viewed there. . . |

Hi D,
I was interested to try your suggestion ,
Tried the below,
XK89.DUMP has the XDC dataset,
Then ran this JCL,
Code: |
//XK89COPY JOB ,'BORED',CLASS=4,MSGCLASS=P,NOTIFY=&SYSUID
//STEP0010 EXEC PGM=SORT
//SORTIN DD DSN=XK89.DUMP,DISP=SHR
//SORTOUT DD SYSOUT=*
//SYSUDUMP DD SYSOUT=*
//SYSIN DD *
SORT FIELDS=COPY
//*
|
After running the job,
The SYSOUT thing has the XDC contents.
But I guess the user wants the exact replica of his old job as if it has run now. Which IMHO is not possible I think. or is it?
P.S. - Yey!! I reached 200 posts
Thanks, |

We can't always get what we want. . .
We can usually get what we need (big difference).
Anything "saved" via XDC can be copied back into the spool, but as you note - it will not be an exact replica of the original. If nothing else, it will not have the same job number.
As to why this cannot just be viewed in the file we haven't been told. . .
Congrats on reaching 200

copied back into the spool, |
I feel this is a mis-nomer.
you can't really copy something to the spool. You can generate output from a job that will be maintained in the spool; but to imply that you can copy to spool (as you can copy from spool) would IMUO provide false impression on the impressionable. |

I too, would like to know why it is needed as spool file. |

Yup, quite possibly was not the best choice
However, as possibly the easiest ways to get the stuff "into the spool again" is to use the copy capability of one's sort, idcams, iebgener, etc, i took the easy way out. Surely didn't want to open the "re-queue" door. . .
On the up side, i didn't mention a jcl. . .
