This could mean different things to different organizations.
I suspect i've worked with several of these (possibly have even been one myself), but none had that job title/description.
You would probably get a more meaningful reply if you ask someone who works in an organization that has this job title and learn what it means in that organization. |

IMHO,
In a supply chain retail environment, I think Mainframe Architect is the one who designs the different interfacing applications & decides the data flow between them and how each application communicates.
Application developer is the one who develops the smaller applications.
Just my idea of what they are/maybe. |

the mainframe architect, i prefer IT architect is the person who...
collects the requirements of an application or a set of applications
and defines the hardware and software <system architecture> needed to implement the application itself
the application requirements to keep the list short would be
no... the application logic is not involved here...
number of users,
data base resources utilization
transaction volume
concurrency,
availability,
disaster recovery provision
...
hardware,software,...
recommends interfaces between different architectures and applications
sometimes makes recommendations on changes needed, advisable in order to optimize the <thing>
or have it fulfill requirements not clearly defined before
for complex applications the IT architect should be an active partner in the
development of the requirement, objectives, standards
just jotted down a few ideas,
I' ll edit the post or make a new one as soon I have thought about it a bit longer |

Only 6, they must be getting better
When I worked in Munich there was a different job title for every position within the same group.
Take prod support for instance - - -
Senior JCL monkey
Deputy senior JCL monkey
Senior assistant JCL monkey
Deputy senior assitant JCL monkey
Assistant JCL monkey
Junior assistant JCL monkey
........ forever and ever
They all did the same job and made the same mistakes ........... |

ok I' ll bite
what I meant really was not the whole requirement shebang,
no IT architect cares about the details of the transaction...
but just those relative to the environment and the possible interfaces |

enrico,
I apologize if the tone of my post made fun of you. That was not my intent.
What I meant and should of said was the question by the TS was so site specific that we are all wasting our time trying to give him an answer.
If the job that you want is something that you have no idea of the requirements is sorta like if you have to ask the price, you can't afford it. |
