I am trying to delete records from VSAM file RLUTV.TST.RLAUDLOG to avoid overflow of the VSAM file, but I am not able to delete the records its giving message "COMMAND NOT SUPPORTED" as below. I have tried to delete records from other VSAM files and was able to delete.

Please suggest me why I am not able to delete the records.

Are you using File Aid or some other software package to delete the records from the VSAM file? If not, how, exactly, are you accessing the VSAM file to delete records from it? Could the file be allocated to a CICS region or other resource that prevents updates such as deletes?

If you can delete records from other VSAM files, there is a difference between those files and the one you are now attempting to delete records from. You need to find the difference to determine the source of the issue. And be aware that knowing the source of the issue does not always provide a resolution -- if there is a conflict because a CICS region is updating the file, you may have to wait until the region comes down to do your deletes or not do manual deletes at all.

avoid overflow of the VSAM file
What does this mean? VSAM files, as long as they are defined with primary and secondary space, will do CI and CA splits up to 123 extents (or until the pack runs out of free space).

let' s translate to an easier terminolgy...
what program are You using to try to delete the record
what is the type of the vsam where the delete is succesfull
what is the type of the vsam where the delete fails
tyope ==> KSDS,ESDS,RRDS,LINEAR ....

post the message You get not a description of it

Perhaps the better question is "What software are YOU talking about?"
Namely, what program/product/utility are you using to (try to) delete VSAM records?
What command(s) ( show explicitly ) are you issuing in an attempt to effect deletion of the records?
There are MANY programs/products/utilities that can be used to manipulate VSAM files, and the answer "may" depend on which product you are using, and what command(s) you are trying to use.

explanation/problem determination ...
the software/program You are using does not support the command You are trying to use/issue

problem resolution ...
use/issue a valid/supported command

nuff said, nothing more we can do
