what happens if we u code GO BACK instead of STOP RUN in stand alone cobol program? ie which is not calling any other program? will it go into any loop or not?

Nothing will happen if it is the stand alone pGM.

The control just returns to OS. Thats it.

both of them will stop execution and control goes back to the OS.
The difference you can find out between these two in CICS program where both work differently. Means GO BACK will alawys goes back to calling program where as STOP RUN alaways returns to the CICS.
In case of stand alon program even in CICS it will work same.
