We have implemented duplexing here and want to send out ML2 AVOLs off-site. We are having an issue in VRS with PARTIAL tapes. We mark our tapes full prior to our volume flash (CDS are on DASD) and then dump, then RMMDAILY (VRSEL, expiration, etc). In the time between the mark full (2am) and the checkout time (9am), new partial tapes are created and show up in VRS. Is there any way to avoid this? |

Probably not, as PARTIAL / FULL are HSM characteristics, but to RMM it is just another offsite tape that matches a dataset pattern.
Will have a think about this one .................... |

Through the distant mists of memory ............
When I met a similar problem in the past, at the cut off time for volume selection we produced a list of tapes that had the particular dataset name and were not registered as being offsite.
The dataset pattern was removed from the main VRS run and the selected volumes were ejected from the library via a batch job at the time that the other volumes were automatically ejected for offsite transport. This meant that only the tapes that had been produced prior to the cut off point were ejected and subsequent volumes remained in the library.
Maybe you could implement something similar here. Or maybe cross reference the HSM AVOLS from RMM against HSM to exclude those that are marked PART FULL from the eject process. |
