Hello All,

I have a file which will be cateloged by some other system through FTP.
Let say the file name is: X.Y.ZYYQ(0) (Here YYQ will be dynamically replaced by other system based on the year quarter data that is getting processed. If we are processing 2nd quarter data of 2008, then the file will be X.Y.Z082(0)). And we are not sure which year quarter data will be send to us from the other system (it can be any year quarter).

Now I would like to schedule a job automatically (dataset triggered job) once the file is cateloged into mainframes. Is it possible?

In my application, there are few dataset triggered jobs available. But the dataset names doesn't contain any dynamic values. So I would like to know whether this is possible or not if we have dynamic values in the dataset name?

Thanks
Anand

I'm not a scheduling expert, and you haven't told us what scheduling software you have, but I'm pretty sure that they all require that the dataset name be consistent, so I doubt this is going to be possible. Sometimes it works better if you can define a single constant dataset as a "dummy" trigger, which as long as it's opened and closed will make a trigger fire.

Hi Kevin,

We use control-M for scheduling the jobs.

I have a requirement for a dataset trigger job which contain dynamic values in the dataset name.

Is there any other way that I can schedule the job once the file is cateloged?

Thanks
Anand

Hello,

You might consider having the remote submit the job to use the dataset that was FTPed.

Am using OPC on my project and same type of job trigger is there by availability of DSN, it can be possible by OPC by Resource Availability option. other option can be done NFTP, where on the control card you can mention the joblib and as well the job name once the NFTP finishes, it need NETRAP setup.

Hi Anand,

how do you envisage to pass the dataset name to the triggered job ?

Do you use CMEM (Control-M Event Manager) to track dataset arrival ?

Why might you believe this?

Why have you not answered Gerry's questions?

When looking for help, one must provide requested info. . .
