Hi sushmitha,
EDIT could have been a better choice than update....
Well....You can definitely edit a generation of GDG.....Where do you face a prob in doing that....

Let i rephrase your question:--
1. let i say the GDG(base) and other GoovoO as GDS (flat files)
so if you want to work with the GDG(BASE) to change it's parameter which u have given during define time then use ALTER Command.
If you want to work with the GDS i don't think so that u would be getting any problem in editing them ..as they r just like flat files..
