Hi All,
I am running a program that inserts a segment into the database(Fast path). I often run this and it runs without any abend. But this time around it has abended with status code as 'FH'. I checked in the Quick reference and it says that - DEDB Area was inaccessible when the program was trying to access DB. Does this mean that there is some kind of a contention with DB, May be that some other program has taken exclusive control of DB. Please advise me on the same.

Did you check with your tech services staff? And, have you tried to run it since this abend?

Hi Sandy,
Yes I tried running the program after the abend and it ran fine as well. And as far as checking with the tech services staff is concerned, I am not sure whom to contact as I don't work at client location. I just wanted to know why do we get this abend, as the notes given in quick reference is not very clear.

Hello,

Might one or more dataset have been migrated when the abend occurred?

The client dba might be a good person to talk with to learn if this has happened previously. . .

Hi Dick,
Thanks for the advice, I will try and get in touch with the client DBA for this. But to the best of my knowledge, in case a dataset is migrated it is generally recalled and then processed. Please correct me if I am wrong?

Hello,

I would expect the recall to be issued, but what if there was a time-out before the recall completed?

Hi Dick,
I was of the opinion that if there is a timeout scenario, S322 abend would be invoked. Also the CLASS parameter would determine how the resources are allocated to the Job. But then what you said might be true as the JCL had TIME parameter specified as 7.

Hello,

Quote:

There is more than one kind of time-out. . . An s322 is because the task used more than the allowable cpu time.

The time-out i mention is when the database service rejects a task because the allowable wait time was exceeded.

Have you talked with the dba? You will receive more applicable info from the people who support the system.

why in <heaven> people are so lazy not to look at the proper documentation icon_evil.gif
if instead of checking the quick reference You had checked he IMS manuals You would have found lots more info...

-- here is a pointer, choose the bookshelf for Your IMS version
-- www-03.ibm.com/systems/z/os/zos/bkserv/zappls2.html

that the reason for the status code FH not abend is most of the time temporary..

and to contact Your support for diagnosis and resolution
or confirmation that a /STA database was enough to solve the issue

furthermore FH alone as a symptom is not enough to give any advice..
what DFS... messages were issued along the FH status code

for example there was any online maintenance going on ,
has HSSP setup been done properly..

too many questions to be asked and items to be investigated for an exhaustive forum solution

as You see nothing that Your support should not be able to tackle icon_biggrin.gif

Hi Dick/Enrico,
Thanks a lot for the info. I shall try and do an exhaustive search from now on before approaching the Forum.
