HI,
I have a query in GDG. I have created one generation in one step and i am using the same generation in next step. For that we have to code Dataset(+1) why because all genearations are cataloged after completion of the job only, so what we have to code for DISP parameter. Is it new or old?
I hope that i will get the answer for the above query.
Thanks...

Suresh,
The DISP should be OLD. The Datasets would be catalogued at a particular STEP, not at the end of the JOB. I cant tell u why IBM referenced a new GDS as (+1) through out the JOB, but my guess would be to increase the understanding ability of a programmer when he goes through the JCL. If a (+1) GDS was mentioned as (0) in the next STEP then u cud easily lose track of the GDS. |

The relative generation numbers of all generations of a GDG gets updated in the catalog only after the end of the job. Thats why (+1) is being used for a newly created GDG till the end of the job.
Please correct me if I am wrong. |
