Hi,
I am a "DUMBO" when it comes to IMS/DB or IMS/DC.
I have googled and downloaded a redbook "IMS Version 7 Java Update" for the below requirement. Will that be any help?
Please give me pointers to accessing and adding/modifying data in IMS/DB using a Java program on a windows (Vista) machine. Any worked out examples on the same would help. Even a guide/Redbook or other documentation related to that would do.
Also, please provide some info on the Java drivers to be installed on my personal desktop.
Also, let me know if there is some additional installation on the mainframe machine necessary in order to make such access to the IMS/DB on that
Thanks in advance. |

Hello,
Before you invest very much effort on the Win-side of things, suggest you talk with your dba and network support people to learn if they can/will support this and if so, how will connectivity be established/supported. |

Okay.. But I will need to approach the administrators with names of all the drivers in order to find out what exactly needs to be installed, and what has already been installed on the mainframe.
We already have MQ installed on a few of our personal desktops.
MQ is there even on the mainframe.
The requirement is that I don't use MQ.
Can you help me with the names of such drivers on the mainframe?
Also on my personal desktop.
Thanks in advance |

all You need to know can be found....
for the mainframe intallation issues in the IMS manuals for Your IMS release
for IMS 9 ( for example ) starting from
publibz.boulder.ibm.com/cgi-bin/bookmgr_OS390/Shelves/DFSSHCG3
for the rest of the whole shebang You can start from
www-01.ibm.com/software/data/ims/imsjava/
and click on the links
(*) the only thing that looks murky is the availability of a barebone JDBC IMS driver for non z/OS Platforms
but a google search for JDBC IMS returned some urls of providers of such beasts |
