All,

I have been recently moved to a project in UNIKIX (UNIX+CICS) and have no access to mainframes. I badly need a mainframe setup so that I can practice few stuffs.

Need the steps to be followed for installing and using "Hercules" Emulator in my PC.

Please note that I have already searched all the forums and got details but want to hear from someone who had actually installed and using it.

Go to Herculeus home page, download the pdf for installation instruction and follow that -- it's pretty simple. Though treating PC's Hard-drive as DASD was trickier for me...

Anuj,

Code:

Have you actually tried installing it?

Am asking this so that I can PM in case of any issues while installing and using it.

Yes I did.

Suggest we play around here itself -- I believe there are some better people around from Herculeus installation per se.

hi Aaru

just ask and I' ll be glad to help

but remember the operating system licence is an issue

the only things that You can legally run are ...
mvs 3.8, the father of all the modern MVSes
and all the linux flavors 32/64 bits

there are quite a few IBM employers that run a modern zOS on hercules
(even if some of them qualifying themselves as such asked some pretty supid questions)
