Hi,
We have 2 mainframe servers and we have CICS on both.
The first mainframe server uses CICS TS 3.2 and the second mainframe server uses CICS TS 1.1.1.
The first mainframe server that runs CICS TS 3.2 already uses the APPC protocol to communicate to other external servers.
Now we are trying to establish a connection between these two mainframe servers with no additional cost if possible.
The second mainframe that runs CICS TS 1.1.1 does not use APPC now.
I need to know if the APPC protocol comes free with CICS? Or does that need to be bought with a separate license?
If it comes with CICS, is it available on CICS TS 1.1.1?
Thanks and Regards,
Anu |

I was using APPC connections back in 1990-1991 so they pre-date CICS TS by a number of years. AFAIK, the APPC connection capability is part of the base CICS package and does not require anything but setting up the connections with the external servers. Since the connection is one-to-one, you will need to have some set up done on the external servers to be able to connect your 1.1.1 region to them. |

Thank you. This helps.
Is there any documentation on how to establish APPC between 2 mainframes?
Thanks Regards,

The site support group must be involved -- there is a need for VTAM settings to match on both sides, along with other pieces such as CICS region names. Why not copy the existing APPC definitions and just change them for the new region? |
