UTF encoding schemes

What is the diference between UTF-18 and UTF-8 encoding schems and when UTF-16 encoding is preferred over UTF-8?

Google is your friend. Googling UTF-16 returns over 8 million hits, while Googling UTF-8 returns over 134 million hits. The first page of each has Wikipedia articles about them. You might want to do some research.
