Hello everyone!
Here's a strange problem I've experienced today.
After adding my user read privilages to BPX.SUPERUSER facility (for using "su" command) and doing "setropts raclist(facility) refresh"... Here's what I get when trying to connect with Putty to ports 22 and 23...
Code: |
Application Required. No Installation Default
Enter Application Name: |
It seems OMVS isn't the default anymore...? Is it possible that someone changed something and that refresh of facilities made it active, and this is the result?
Also, does anyone know how to find out which character can be used for pipe-ing when using Putty? (I tried "|" and "!")
One other thing... it seems pressing "2" is equivalent to pressing enter?? Can this fixed somehow?
TIA! |

Most of the time, port 23 is reserved for use by the 3270 terminal emulation program. The messages you display are what I see when I attempt to telnet to port 23 which is definitely used here for 3270 emulation. Typically, sites will use some other ports for telnet and PUTTY sessions directly into OMVS. Since this is totally site specific, contact your site support group to see which port to connect to. Common ports include 623, 2023, 1023, etc.
If you have access to look at the TCP/IP PROFILE for your system, find the PORT section and look for which port(s) are mapped to TCP OMVS -- that will be the port(s) to use. If you cannot do this, you'll have to contact your site support group for assistance. |

Oh, I see....
Yes, thats the standard reply on port 23..
...but 22 is SSH for sure, because it worked just few hours ago...
When I try to connect, Putty says:
"Server unexpectedly closed network connection"
I thought the reason for this is that reply on port 23, but it's another thing, as you say. |

That sounds like you definitely need to contact your site support group. The server closing the network connection on port 22 means ssh is listening, heard your request, and there was some problem with it that caused it to shut down your connection. Your site support group may be able to determine from the logs what the problem is, or they may need to do some tracing to uncover the problem. |

Hmh...
The system was re-IPL-ed list night (for some other reasons), and now everything works...
If it happens again, is system log a good place to keep an eye on? |

I may add that it all works nicely through invoking OMVS through ISPF (with PCOM), but Putty is showing this weird behaviour.... |

Here is an update...
After changing the shell from sh to tcsh, behaviour is alot better. Now only the key "2" doesn't function..
Other keys work + pipe works + some basic auto-complete tabbing works. |
