Hi , Everyone

Assumed that there are 2 jobs, one run at 3 am, and the other one run at 3:05 am. these 2 jobs will also use sort statement and icetool statement, respectively.

Now the former run successfully , however, the latter will always abend becase of ICE046A [SORT RECOVERING FROM B37 ABEND ON SORTWK DATA SET] .

My question is whether i shoud define the dependency for them, that is, once the former is done/finished, will the sortwk be released immediately so that the latter will run job successfully ?

Thanks for your kind advise.

Best Rgds,
Shaw

Hello,

Yes, if you make job2 dependent on job1, you should avoid this particular problem.

You may still have a problem if some other job(s) allocate large amounts of work space. . .

Suggest you talk with your storage management people to ensure there is enough space allocated to that storage class.

In order to answer you question, we must first determine the actual cause of the ICE046A. If you add //SORTDIAG DD DUMMY to both jobs, DFSORT wll write additional diagnostic messages to sysout. If you then send both sysouts to betten@us.ibm.com, I'll be happy to look them over.
