Hello

I know FREESPACE is scattered throughout dataset to allow records to be inserted or lengthed. Not sure about between CI.

Can anybody help me on the below question?

FREESPACE is used to
a. Give space between two pages
b. give spaces between two CI
c. All

Regards
Binaya

Suggest you download or bookmark the IBM Redbook: VSAM Demystified.

You won't have many questions after reading.

Can we answer (D) None of the above?

FREESPACE doesn't give space anywhere -- it is an area within the controlinterval or controlarea that is left unused to allow for record insertion.

The IBM Terminology web page lists 12 definitions for the term "page". None of those 12 definitions refer to VSAM. DB2, yes. System storage, yes. Databases, yes. VSAM, no.
