Hi,
Can you please let me know how can we take image copy for MSDB database? I think general image copy utility DFSUDMP0 cannot be used for this kind of database. |

I was told that it is not possible to take Image Copy by normal IBM utility used for taking image copy.
But I wonder if it is not at all possible to take image copy of MSDB database or is there any other way by which this can be done.
Any idea? |

Hello,
To repeat - talk to the ims dba.
In place, on your system, already are backup jobs. They just don't happen to be db2 Image Copy.
The dba can provide everything you need to make a backup copy on your system (and probably runs these with regularity). |

Hi Dick,
I was told at our shop by DBA that it is not possible to take image copy of IMS MSDB database by the utility they generally use and no other way was suggested.
Hence I was trying to find is there any other utility present or any other way by which we can take image copy of this particular type of IMS databse.
Hi Anju,
Thanks for the link. But according to that document utility mentioned over there has got limitation and cannot be used to take image copy MSDB databse. Also couple of other utilities mentioned over there also cannot be used for taking image copy.
Maybe it is NOT possible to take image copy of such databases. Does anybody know about this? |

Thanks Eric.
The information which is of my use seeme to be following -
'At system checkpoint, a copy of all MSDBs is written alternately to one of the MSDB checkpoint data sets--MSDBCP1 or MSDBCP2. During restart, the MSDBs are reloaded from the most recent copy on MSDBCP1 or MSDBCP2. During an emergency restart, the log is used to update the MSDB. During a normal restart, the operator can reload from MSDBINIT using the MSDBLOAD parameter on the restart command.'
So there is nothing like taking Image Copy by running some job with Image Copy Utility as done for normal IMS database. |
