Simply by switching a loadmodule from 24-bit to 31-bit, are there any immediate performance benefits from IBM? Such as reduction of CPU time?

It is more about storage constraints... your application has to fit into a smaller area when it is 24 bit. And might have to share the area with other programs in split screen mode.
