Are Packages Mandatory in DB2 9

We are currently on DB2 v8.1 on z/OS. We use PLANs only. We are upgrading to DB2 9 later this year. Do we HAVE TO convert to Packages to run in DB2 9?

Not mandatory... but BINDing DBRM to a package has some advantages.
