what is the difference between VSAM file and GSAM file

GSAM is Generalized sequential access method and it is used in IMS. This allows IMS application to access sequentilal dataset and it's treated as a database.

I think by defining a VSAM file as Simple Hierarchical Indexed Access Method you can access it in IMS.
