when we specify a file DISP=(NEW,KEEP), it will not be catloged ,then it can't be used in the next step with DISP=(OLD,DELETE), right? Then is there a situation that we may use DISP=(NEW,KEEP,KEEP) ? |

I think you may find that in an SMS managed environment, the KEEP becomes CATLG by default. |

Why not just test it at your end? |

I used to use NEW,KEEP when building tapes that were shipped to customers. I didn't want the tape in the catalog since we wouldn't get it back, and the tapes came from a special pool. |

It can, if you specify the VOLSER in both steps.
The 3rd parameter DISP=(NEW,KEEP,KEEP) specifies the action to occur in an abnormal situation.

This may show what happens on a particular system, but does not suggest why it might be used. . . |
