Experts,
Please share on the disadvantages of doing a compression using DISP=SHR for any pds which hold by any CICS regions etc..
Situation:
ProductionLoadlib PDS: AAAA.BBBB.CCCC
Always hold by CIC01, CIC02, CIC03 regions.
It 's getting difficult release this load from cics regions, so
Proposed solution:
Using DISP=SHR, DSN=AAAA.BBBB.CCCC in JCL to compress this production loadlib.
Would like to know suggestions/demerits etc on this proposal.
Thanks,
Srini |

Hi,
If the dataset has DISP=SHR, a batch compress job will work but I believe it's not a good idea; I did it couple of times but my process was just for my experments so I was safe. Compress changes the member locations in the PDS and that can impact address spaces that have already opened the dataset. The problem can be if the current users of the dataset don't refresh their data once the compress is done, they could be attempting to refer to members in locations that are not in use anymore, or even in use by a different member. |

Hello,
You need to compress this dataset while cics is down / being re-cycled. . .
You might consider changing from the pds to a pdse. |
