Unfortunately the urgency of the matter is not our problem as our help is given on a voluntary basis.

Who's idea was it to do this in REXX and allocate it to you with your limited / null REXX knowledge.

Have you searched the forum and/or google - as I recall this topic being discussed in the past.

I wrote something like this in the early 1990ies. icon_cool.gif

It was my first real piece of REXX and it took me a fair amont of time. Sadly for you, it's written to parse PL/I copybooks, but given that COBOL is a lot easier than PL/I, it should take you far less time to write your own version. icon_biggrin.gif

Hello,

Probably, i'm too simplistic, but if there is any urgency, why not just use FileAid and make sure you are in Browse. . .?

This will get the info you want immediately. . .

I wager this requirement is to create input for some 3rd party file conversion utility and/or data mapping activity. Parsing working storage/copy books is a pretty easy subset of cobol, but if it's your first time writing a parser the learning curve is pretty steep. And if you don't know the relavent implemenatation tools/language (C, Flex, Bison, etc...) it will be that much more difficult.

I'd look at the OpenCobol source for an example.

If it is urgent try to extact only those filed by SORT & Using Outrec Fields... to another file. It will be very easier.
