Hi All,

Can you please share some mannuals for 3390 DASD Specification.

I need information about the allocation on primary and secondary.

Im looking out for the space allocation for VSAM type Dataset.

How much space a VSAM ksds would be occupying for 3390 type DASD to accomodate 100 records of 80 length.

The amount of space allocated would depend entirely on the VSAM specification. TRK(1 1) would suffice for this, but if you used CYL(1 1) then you would use a whole cylinder + index space.

Of course if you were experimental and tried to load the records with a definition of CYL(1 1) FSPC(100 100) you might see some surprising results.

Take a look at the IBM redbooks and look for VSAM demystified for the best explanation in town.

I'm aware of the surprising result using FSPC(100,100).

Have looked into this however could you please share the links for IBM aredbook for allocation if possible?

I'm experimenting and wondering what would be the best suitable size of the KSDS DSN if the LRECL is 80 and there are 100 records. Can we be able to calculate the size required if the Length and num of records are known?

quick and dirty
record format fixed lrecl 80

cidf 4 bytes two rdf 3 + 3 bytes ==> 10 bytes of control info

esds, cisz 4096, 51 records per ci , 12 ci per track

1 track will hold 612 records

Aaaaaaaaah, those were the days. Ask a dumb question and not only was the phrase " RTFM" hurled at you, but swiftly followed by the manual at high velocity and deadly accuracy icon_biggrin.gif
