to be more specific....

JOB TIME=X
STEP1 TIME=A
STEP2 TIME=B
STEP3 TIME=C

So for STEP3 to be executed successfully.

Its running time <= C & running time<= (X-A-B)

Priyesh.

Hi,
If your step exceeds the time limit coded in the JOB CARD it will abend.
But if it takes time greater than 2(as coded in step) and less than 3 as coded in JOB CARD it will run fine. As if time parameter is coded both in JOB and STEP, job will override the time parameter of the step.
Correct me if i am wrong.

Hi Subhasis_50,

Friend....I m agree with you on.....job will override the time parameter of the step.

Well, I found some more thing on this....

Quote:
You can use the TIME parameter on a JOB statement to decrease the amount of processor time available to a job or job step below the default value. You cannot use the TIME parameter on a JOB statement to increase the amount of time available to a job step over the default value. To increase the allowable time over the default value, use the TIME parameter on the EXEC statement.

It should clear the air....Please get me back, If I m not correct.

Regards,

Priyesh.

In your case the Job will ABEND because Unless you mention TIME=NOLIMIT or 1440 in JOBCARD the Parm will not be overriding the parm in EXEC statement. So there is no significance if you code anything other than NOLIMIT or 1440 in JOBCARD ,bcos it is going to ignored by the parm in EXEC statement.

Also find the link for clarification.
