Can anyone please tell me how many BYTES a DUMP message '(100,dump)' contains? Is it 100 bytes?

Hello,

The only time i've seen something like this is to specify a user abend with a dump but that is in code not jcl.

Maybe it will be more familiar to someone else icon_neutral.gif

Why would cobol come to mind? The code where i used something like this was assembler to force a user abend (assembler has an ABEND macro).

The initial question mentions bytes in a dump. Where did this concept originate? Where did the term "dump message" originate?

Hi Dick,

I have no idea but this was the question how many bytes will be in (100,DUMP). I got this question in one of my JCL test.

Hello,

The "IBM Manuals" link at the top of the page is our friend icon_smile.gif

Look here for complete info:
publibz.boulder.ibm.com/cgi-bin/bookmgr_OS390/handheld/Connected/BOOKS/iea2b680/28.8.2?

And yes, it is a jcl question icon_biggrin.gif

Not one i've ever used, but it is in the manual icon_wink.gif

So, (100,DUMP) = 100,000 bytes

I wrote 100 bytes in my test which was wrong

No wonder I didn't recognize it -- it's a JES3 control statement parameter. I've only used JES2!
