Hi sheshu,
I just want to confirm do you mean just to have a look of the records in vsam or you wanna make changes in it.?
Because edit means changes can be made and be saved as well.
View means we can change but we cant save it.
Without the use of FILEAID also we can view the vsam file.
For that what we need to do is,
1. go for 3.4 option i.e, for dslist..
2. after getting the vsam data set, just type print ids(/) char in the same line.. press enter..
You can see the records of the dataset.
If you wanna change any records in it.. I think its not possible in this method.
In that case better go for ispf, There only you have some option to edit it.. |

U can either do it it online using FILEAID or INSYNC or some file editing tools or in BATCH the simplest way would be to UNLOAD it in to a flat file and edit the way u want it and then LOAD it into the VSAM FILE. |

Hi seshareddy,
I believe it is possible to edit an vsam file through File Aid and also Insync. Insync is similar to file aid. I have edited VSAM cluster through Insync and also have changed the values and saved it. In the ISPF menu you will have the option of getting in to Insync. Give option Edit and specify any cluster name. You can edit as usual.
Also if you want just to view the records of an VSAM cluster you can just type PRINT CH before the vsam cluster described in 3.4 option. If any questions further, you can ask me. |

hi seshareddy_p,
we can edit the vsam dataset using a DITTO option in the ISPF panel. there we can use it and we can make changes and the changes will be reflected in the vsam dataset. There is another way to edit the VSAM dataset by writing a program in COBOL and we would able to see the edited records.

There is no chance to edit the vasm file with out file-aid.....
we can see the records...using print ids(datasetname) char...using 3.4 option...
