hi everyone,
I'm new here and new to mainframe.
Happy to join you.

I'm working on IO measurement for datasets used in my job.
To do that, I collect SMF30BLK and SMF30DCT data from EXCP section of type 30 record.
Meantime, I can have total EXCP info. from JESMSGLG.

In my imagination, since SMF contains data for all datasets, I can sum them up and
the sum should be equal to the value I get from JESMSGLG.
However, the EXCP info. from JESMSGLG is different from the sum of my collected SMF30BLK for all DD, either the sum of SMF30DCT. icon_eek.gif
Can someone please tell me what's wrong in my thought?
Are they different things in JESMSGLG and SMF type 30?

Thanks for your time and reply in advance.

Hi,

if you compare each step from the JESMSGLG to the SMF records, is the EXCP information the same ?

When I compare one of my jobs, step by step, the information is the same.

hi Gerry

Can you tell me which SMF field you compare to JESMSGLG?
I compare SMF30BLK and SMF30DCT to JESMSGLG and get no luck.

Hi,

I extracted type 60 records for a job I had run ealier. using FILEAID I was able to view the extracted records and in pos 405 for 2 bytes, the excp count matched the excp count from the steps in my job.

Jervis: SMF 30 records can be collected for intervals; you need to restrict yourself to the subtype 4 (step termination) or subtype 5 (job termination) records. IIRC, the interval counts are included in the subtype 4 and 5 counts (but you might want to verify that yourself).

TANSTAAFL:

I'm collecting subtype 4 & 5 of SMF30 to compare with JESMSGLG and they don't match. icon_sad.gif So that makes me think what's the difference between them on EXCP.
