Hi:
Any one know how to restart a printer which is in the following status:
1) ACTIVE
2) INACTIVE
We used to start a printer which is in DRAINED status using S.
Cheers,

Are you using CA-SPOOL or some other package to manage your printers, or are you asking for a JES2 or JES3 command to do this? |

And are you an "Application Engineer" (in this case, you'll not be having the rights to issue such commands (actually you should not)) or a printer-support executive? |

Hi Robert:
We are not using CA-SPOOL.
We are issuing commands from SDSF comand line only.
When we give the SDSF command PR, we get the following printer status:
PRINTER Status SForms SClass
PRT5 DRAINED TEST K
PRT6 INACTIVE TEST M3
PRT7 INACTIVE IND 3
PRT8 DRAINED STD 3
PRT10 DRAINED STD 3
PRT12 DRAINED STD 1
PRT97 DRAINED STD K
PRT98 INACTIVE DCEN K
PRT99 DRAINED STD 1
R20.PR1 INACTIVE STD E
I want to restart the PRT7 as some newly updated print resources are not being pickup.
We used to start DRAINED printers by giving S adjacent to it.
Cheers,

Hi Anuj:
I'm in Production Service team. We have almost all privileges. |

I don't use SDSF so I can't help you with it. However, if it used to work and now doesn't, you need to contact your site support group and find out what they changed to make it not work -- that could have been an accidental side effect of a change they made. |

I also don't know about SDSF, but the console command is $S PRT7 to start PRT7. $P PRT7 to quiesce it and drain it. $E PRT7 to restart it. $Z PRT7 to kill it and drain it. $I PRT7 to interrupt it. |

Hi Robert:
We have never tried to start an INACTIVE printer yet. So actually don't know the command to restart it.
Anyway thanks for your quick replies...
Cheers,
