Is there an option in edit to turn on/off invalid character notification?

I had a problem with a parmlib member where I had some invalid characters (hex 41's). When a coworker edits the member, he sees

"-caution- data contains invalid (non-display) characters. use command FIND P'.' to position cursor to these"

when I edit the same member with my ID, and turn hex on, I see the hex 41's, but I do not get the warning message. and FIND P'.' returns "No CHARS '.' found

I've searched bookmanager to no avail. Anyone know what might be different?

you will receive the message when your profile indicates CAPS ON.

if your profile is CAPS OFF, you will not receive the message.

Tried CAPS ON, still not seeing the warning message.

My profile is exactly the same as my coworker who is seeing the warning:
....PARMLIB (FIXED - 80)....RECOVERY OFF....NUMBER OFF..................
....CAPS ON....HEX OFF....NULLS ON STD....TABS OFF....SETUNDO STG.......
....AUTOSAVE ON....AUTONUM OFF....AUTOLIST OFF....STATS ON..............
....PROFILE UNLOCK....IMACRO NONE....PACK OFF....NOTE ON................
....HILITE PLI LOGIC CURSOR FIND MARGINS(2,80)..........................

I think the problem is with my terminal software. I'm using Attachmate EXTRA!. If I disable "support extended attributes" in my session, I'm limited to 4 text colors, but I now see the warning.
